Better choices

So you have determined that gluten causes stomach bloating, gas, or possibly headaches. Or maybe you are just curious what you would eat if you stopped eating gluten. As mentioned in the previous post, gluten can be found in the darnedest things so first and foremost read your food labels, paying special attention to ingredients, sugar amount in grams (trying to keep this as close to 25 grams per day), and taking note if there is protein inside the packaged item. Try to minimize packaged items in your grocery cart.

  • Eat whole fruits and vegetables with varied color from the produce section, Farmers Market, or your backyard garden!

  • Buy some frozen vegetables and have them in the freezer for quick options. I like broccoli, sweet potatoes, and cauliflower pizza crusts to make a quick meal.

  • Think about the nutrient density of each of your food choices… crackers or carrot and celery sticks with hummus, and corn chips or jicama and cucumber with guacamole.
